Exemption for the commercial operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)

Since C2 class drones are currently not yet available on the market, the BMDV has passed exemption for the commercial operation in the ‘open’ category, subcategory A2. This enables the operators of texisting drones’, which are not used for sporting or recreational purposes, to reduce the minimum horizontal distance from uninvolved persons. Further details can be found in the following decree (ref. LF 6312.1/8 of 3 January 2022) This decree is valid until August 31, 2022. On July 28, it was extended until August 31, 2023 by the Federal Aviation Office (LBA) (file number: B5-30103-2022-01) as part of a general decree (PDF German only, not barrier-free).

As C2-classified drones are currently still not available on the market, the German  Federal Aviation Office (LBA) has extended the exemption for commercial operation in the open category, subcategory A2. This allows operators of so-called inventory drones, which are not used for sports and recreational purposes, to reduce the minimum horizontal distance to uninvolved persons.
